What is an Enlightenment Intensive (EI)?

An EI is a group self-enquiry style retreat designed to quickly enable an enlightenment experience or an experience of nonduality. Originated in the 1960’s by Charles Berner and his wife, Ava Berner, the format combines the self-enquiry meditation method popularized by Ramana Maharshi with communication processes in a structure that resembles both a traditional Zen Sesshin (meditation retreat) and western dyad involving a speaker and a listener. Religious/spiritual teachings and philosophical concepts are nonconsequential to the technique and are generally avoided, making the EI suitable to any cultural/religious/spiritual affiliation. 

How can I benefit?

At the core of the intensive is “the technique”, a simple method of self-enquiry and communication to a listening partner that reveals and sheds layers of identity, like the parting of the clouds revealing the sun. As the mind naturally declutters, a quiet space opens that invites direct experience and potentially an awakening/enlightenment experience.

Using some basic agreements a sacred, supportive & safe container is created for all participants to fully express what arises in their awareness as a result of doing the technique.
